How this calculator works
Each category has a defined base unit (meters for length, grams for weight, Celsius for temperature, etc.). Every conversion goes: input → base unit → output unit. This two-step approach means adding a new unit only requires one conversion factor, not a full table of pairs.
Temperature is the exception — Fahrenheit and Kelvin use additive offsets, not just multipliers, so they use custom formulas rather than a simple ratio. The CSV export gives you all conversions for the selected category at once, which is useful for offline reference or pasting into a spreadsheet.
Common questions
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then multiply by 5/9. Formula: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. Common references: 32°F = 0°C (freezing), 98.6°F = 37°C (body temperature), 212°F = 100°C (boiling). To go the other way, multiply by 9/5 then add 32.
How many feet are in a mile?
There are 5,280 feet in a mile, 1,760 yards, or 1,609.344 meters. One kilometer is 0.6214 miles. The mile is the standard distance unit in the US and UK for road distances and running races.
How many ounces are in a pound?
There are 16 avoirdupois ounces in a pound. One pound equals 453.592 grams or 0.4536 kg. Note: fluid ounces (volume) and weight ounces are different units — a fluid ounce of water weighs approximately 1.04 ounces by weight.
What is the difference between KB, MB, and GB?
In binary (IEC) units used by operating systems: 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MB = 1,024 KB, 1 GB = 1,024 MB, 1 TB = 1,024 GB. Storage manufacturers sometimes use decimal units (1 KB = 1,000 bytes), which is why a '500 GB' hard drive shows as about 465 GB in Windows.
How do I convert mph to km/h?
Multiply by 1.60934. So 60 mph = 96.56 km/h. To convert km/h to mph, divide by 1.60934 (or multiply by 0.6214). US speed limits are in mph; most other countries use km/h.
How many cups are in a gallon?
There are 16 US cups in a US gallon. The breakdown: 1 gallon = 4 quarts = 8 pints = 16 cups = 128 fluid ounces. The US gallon (3.785 L) differs from the imperial gallon (4.546 L) used in the UK.
What is a hectare and how does it compare to an acre?
A hectare is 10,000 square meters (100m × 100m). One hectare equals 2.471 acres. An acre is 43,560 square feet or about 4,047 square meters. The US uses acres for land measurement; most other countries use hectares.
